A dependable home
Hosting is only one part of keeping a website running
Website hosting is the service that makes a site available on the internet. On its own, however, the word “hosting” does not tell you who checks the site, keeps a backup, handles routine maintenance or helps when a business detail needs changing. A very cheap hosting account may provide server space while leaving the owner responsible for every technical decision.
Millwards Digital uses a managed care model. The website build and its ongoing home are planned together, so a small-business owner does not have to assemble separate hosting, maintenance and support services. There is one point of contact and a written package scope. That is particularly useful if your working day is spent serving customers rather than managing updates and server settings.
The monthly care plan starts with the website and continues on a rolling basis. It covers managed website hosting, SSL, regular backups, routine security and maintenance, support, and an agreed allowance for content changes. The exact level of support and the amount of change work increase with the package.
Hosting stores the site. Care looks after the service around it.
A managed plan combines the online home with the routine work and human support needed to keep the website useful. It reduces the number of technical jobs that fall back on the business owner.
What monthly website care includes
Managed hosting and SSL
Your site needs a server that can deliver its pages securely to visitors. Managed hosting means Millwards Digital takes responsibility for the normal hosting setup associated with the website rather than handing you a blank control panel. SSL supports the encrypted HTTPS connection visitors expect when loading a modern site or submitting an enquiry.
Regular website backups
Backups provide a recovery point if a technical problem or accidental change affects the live website. A backup is not the same as an uptime promise or a guarantee that no problem can occur, but it is a basic part of responsible website management. The care service includes regular website backups rather than leaving you to remember them.
Routine security and maintenance
Web technology changes over time. Routine maintenance covers the normal checks and technical upkeep appropriate to the website Millwards Digital has built. Security is a continuing process, not a badge that makes any website invulnerable. The practical goal is to reduce avoidable risk, keep the supported setup maintained and respond sensibly when attention is needed.
Support and content changes
A business may need to update opening details, change a service description, replace an image or adjust a call to action. Each package includes an agreed content-change allowance, so routine requests have a defined route. Larger redesigns, new features or work outside the allowance can be scoped separately before anything chargeable happens.

How much does website maintenance cost?
The monthly fee depends on the size and support level of the website package. Launch care is £49 per month, Business care is £99 per month and Growth care is £199 per month. The first month is paid together with the one-off build at checkout. Website care then renews monthly until cancelled.
Those amounts should be compared by scope, not treated as three interchangeable hosting accounts. The Launch package supports its focused one-page website. Business includes expanded monthly support for a site of up to five core pages. Growth includes priority monthly support for the larger, more involved build. The website costs guide shows the build and monthly amounts side by side.
Optional third-party services are not silently absorbed into the monthly care price. A new domain, specialist software licence, paid imagery or other outside service may have its own cost. Any applicable tax, licence or third-party charge is shown or agreed before payment where it applies.
Why maintenance matters to customers as well as technology
Maintenance is often described only in technical terms, but a website can become less useful even when every page still loads. An old telephone number sends enquiries nowhere. An expired offer causes confusion. A service page that no longer matches the business creates the wrong expectation. Keeping key information accurate is part of maintaining customer confidence.
The best arrangement is a shared responsibility. Millwards Digital handles the agreed technical care and change requests; you let Millwards Digital know when business facts change. That might include service areas, opening arrangements, legal information, prices or a new preferred contact route. A short, accurate update is usually more valuable than leaving outdated content online.
Monthly care, cancellation and handover
The care plan has no minimum term beyond the month already paid for. It can be cancelled before the next billing date and ends at the close of the paid period. This keeps the commitment understandable while ensuring the website is not left running indefinitely without an active arrangement.
If care ends, reasonable support is available to help arrange a handover of transferable website content and services before hosting finishes. Bespoke final website deliverables can be used once the agreed build fee is paid, while reusable tools and licensed third-party assets remain subject to their own terms. The full position is set out in the website terms rather than being hidden in a marketing claim.
Domain registration and website care are related but separate services. A domain is the address; hosting is the home that serves the pages. If a new domain is managed through Millwards Digital, its confirmed renewal is billed automatically each year through a separate Stripe subscription from the registrar renewal date. The registrar still performs the renewal, and domain billing can be cancelled independently of monthly website care. If you already own the domain, you remain responsible for keeping it registered unless another arrangement is confirmed.
What happens when support is needed?
You can contact Millwards Digital with the issue or requested change in plain language. Useful details include the page affected, what you expected to happen and, where relevant, a screenshot or the exact wording to update. Requests can then be checked against the package allowance and prioritised appropriately.
Support is not presented as an unlimited development subscription. A new booking system, new payment journey or substantial new group of pages changes the website’s scope and may need a separate quote or package change. Setting that boundary protects both sides: smaller requests remain manageable and larger work receives enough planning.
Who is managed website care for?
Managed care suits business owners who value having a known point of contact more than managing commodity hosting themselves. It works well for sole traders, trade businesses, consultants, salons, shops and services where the website is important but operating it is not the owner’s main job.
If you are still deciding what the site itself should include, begin with the small business web design guide. Trade businesses can also read the websites for trades guide for service-area and quote-enquiry planning.
Common website care questions
Can I buy the build without monthly care?
The advertised Millwards Digital packages pair the website build with monthly care. That creates one managed service for hosting, maintenance and support rather than leaving the new site without an agreed home after launch.
Does maintenance include unlimited changes?
No. Each plan includes an agreed content-change allowance. New functionality, larger redesigns and work beyond that allowance are discussed and priced separately before work begins.
Is website care the same as domain renewal?
No. Monthly care covers the website’s hosting and ongoing service. A domain is renewed on its own schedule and is charged separately when Millwards Digital manages it.
