Plain-English guide
What does website maintenance cost per month in the UK?
The build price is only part of what a small-business website costs. The monthly part, often called care, maintenance or hosting, is where quotes differ most. Here is how to compare them fairly.
What monthly care should cover
- Hosting: the server that keeps the site online.
- SSL: the padlock that makes the site secure in a browser.
- Backups: so a problem can be rolled back.
- Routine maintenance: keeping the site working and up to date.
- A human support route: someone to ask when something breaks.
What Millwards Digital charges
Every Millwards Digital website package comes with a matching monthly care plan:
| Plan | Per month | Designed for |
|---|---|---|
| Launch | £39 | A focused one-page website |
| Business | £69 | Up to five core pages |
| Growth | £99 | A larger, more involved build |
Care has no minimum term beyond the month already paid for, and can be cancelled before the next billing date.
What is usually charged separately
- Domain name: it renews on its own yearly schedule, separate from monthly care.
- Business email: at Millwards Digital a managed mailbox is an optional £4.99 a month.
- Outside services: paid imagery, specialist software and other third-party charges are agreed before payment.
Five questions to ask before you sign
- Is hosting included, or is it a second bill from someone else?
- Are backups and security updates included?
- Who do I contact, and how, when something goes wrong?
- Can I cancel monthly, and what happens to my site and domain if I do?
- Which costs, such as the domain and email, sit outside the monthly fee?
Add it up over three years
