How to use your shop sign

Pick the sign that matches what you need to tell customers, then change the headline if your wording is different. Add your business name if you want it on the sheet, and an extra line for anything else, such as a phone number for deliveries or the time you will be back.

Print on plain white A4. Black ink on white paper is the easiest to read from a distance, and the bold border style gives the sign more presence on a busy counter or window. Put it at eye height where customers look: on the door, by the till or on the counter. A clear plastic wallet or a little tape keeps it flat and protects it from spills and weather.

For a sign you will use again, such as “Card payments only”, print a few copies and keep them to hand. For a temporary one, such as “Back in 10 minutes”, write the time on the extra line with a pen after printing. If you are changing your hours for the festive period, use the Christmas opening hours sign maker, which pre-fills the UK bank-holiday dates.

Common questions

Are the signs free?

Yes. There is no sign-up and no watermark. The sign is made in your browser, so we don't store or see what you type. We only count anonymous tool usage, such as someone pressing print.

What size are the signs?

A4 portrait (210 x 297 mm), the standard UK paper size. Each sign prints on one page on any home or office printer.

Can I change the wording?

Yes. Pick a template, then edit the headline, and add your business name and an optional extra line before you print.

How do I save a sign as a PDF?

Press the print button, then choose “Save as PDF” (or “Microsoft Print to PDF”) as the printer. On a phone, use the share or print option and pick Save as PDF.
